"It does everything I need it to do," says Brandon Russell of his custom-built 6328RX Series-6S Matco Tools toolbox.
As the ASE-certified lead engine technician at Orr Cadillac in Shreveport, La., Russell works on all General Motors vehicles. Since October of 2013, Russell has been designing this toolbox, which currently stands 70" tall by 77" long by 28" deep and is comprised of the initial lower toolbox and later-added hutch. Russell has plans to add two side lockers in the near future - one on each side. "(The side lockers) will offer additional drawers, as well," says Russell. The side lockers will be custom painted to match the white and copper colors of Russell's current toolbox.
Aside from the additional lockers, Russell doesn't have plans to continue to build his box, yet. "I wouldn't say that would be it, but I don't have plans because I haven't seen anything more that I would need....Once you put lockers on the sides you really can't put anything else on the sides." He says, "The only thing that I may be able to do would be to add an additional storage cabinet on top of the hutch."
More than anything, Russell likes that his box is "one of a kind." He says, "What makes my box so special is that it was custom built for me. The paint scheme is very rare, pale horse white with copper-head-painted drawers, and (it) really stands apart from other boxes."
"I also customized the drawers to have more storage space and make frequently-used tools more accessible." With every drawer full, he can't be sure how many tools are inside. "But (the toolbox) is nice and neat or i'd go crazy," says Russell. Each drawer has a slip-proof mat inside that helps keep Russell's tools organized when closing the drawers. "Nothing can move," he says.
"It's a great box and I really enjoy having it," he adds.
