The owner of a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Classic came into the shop saying that their truck lacked overall power and the malfunction indicator light (MIL) was on.
Case details
The first thing the technician did was to connect a scan tool to find any related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). He found one: P062A Fuel Pump Control Performance.
A quick call to ALLDATA Tech-Assist resulted in a solid diagnostic plan. The consultant suggested inspecting connector I240 just above the driver's footrest as it often gets disconnected.
If that connector was okay, then check the desired vs. actual fuel pump pressure with a capable scan tool. They should be the same.
If desired vs. actual fuel pressure is not the same, check the fuel pump module output voltage to the fuel pump. It should be close to battery voltage.
The tech found no problems with connector I240 but did find a fuel pressure problem. The desired pressure was 50 psi, but the actual pressure was only 36 psi. When he checked the output voltage from the pump control module to the pump, it was only 8V. He made sure that the wiring from the fuel pump control module was in good condition and there were no connector issues.
