Tool Review: Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, and LMM Injector Puller Kit

Dec. 15, 2015
The reviewer says the tool allowed for easier injector removal than other similar products.

The Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, and LMM Injector Puller Kit, No. 13300, helps technicians remove the diesel injectors from GM vehicles produced from 2005 to 2010 with an LLY, LBZ or LMM Duramax engine. Over time and miles the injectors become heavily coated with carbon between the tip and head, causing them to stick together. According to the company, a factory tool will rock the injector, binding it into the head. This may damage the injector end. The 13300 will pull the injector straight out without rocking, which reduces the possibility of damaging the injector or head.

The review

The Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, LMM Injector Puller, No. 13300, was rather straightforward, simple to assemble and easy to use, says Eric Moore, co-owner of DeMary Truck in Columbus, Ohio.

Moore employed the injector puller to replace two sets of injectors on vehicles, one on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and another on a 2008 Chevy Silverado 3500 series. After testing it out, Moore appreciated that the Schley tool allowed for easier removal than other similar products.

“The Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, LMM Injector Puller worked very well and was consistent with the time savings experienced with other similar specialized tools by different manufacturers,” says Moore. “The bridge design was more sturdy, allowing for a straight approach. There wasn’t any obtuse angles obtained trying to remove.”

The tool arrived in a blow molded plastic case with a simple guide on the inside case cover. Moore says it was easy to follow the set-up directions.

“It did not have any elaborate setup involved, only assembling the pieces as needed for the task at hand,” he says. Once it was ready for use, Moore says the Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, LMM Injector Puller did its job efficiently and effectively.

Moore says he and his technicians had no other suggestions for improving the tool. All in all, Moore says the Schley Products Duramax LLY, LBZ, LMM Injector Puller, No. 13300, was a very solid offering.

“This tool has a nice design and application,”he continues. “With the better angle, it makes the injectors easy to remove.”
