It’s summertime - and the heat it brings can pose real risks to those who work in it for a living.
Nature has a way of protecting us, though, when the weather turns hot. We sweat! Ever consider how that works?
The sweat leaves your skin through tiny holes called pores. When the sweat hits the air, it evaporates - that is, it changes state from a liquid to a vapor.
If you’re an A/C tech, you should recognize this concept. Liquid sweat absorbs heat from the body until it reaches its boiling point and changes to vapor and it is at this point where the sweat is able to take on its full heat load - removing it from you in the process.
This is called evaporative cooling.
But there are limits on what the body can do to keep itself cool. And when those limits are exceeded, our personal health is at risk. Traditional air conditioning will cool down space but that can be a costly option - both in terms of initial installation and daily operation. Shop fans are another but as I’m sure we have all experienced, all they do is blow the hot air from one spot to another and provide little relief from the heat.
A third solution?
Cool your employees and not the space with an evaporative cooler like the ones offered by PortaCool.
