In a Frost & Sullivan webinar titled "Global Automotive Aftermarket: Strategies for Revenue Generation & Growth," Ben Johnson, director of product management for Mitchell 1, discusses how automotive repair shops can prepare for the advances in electric vehicles. Though any sort of major impact from electric vehicles on the industry is still years away, Johnson reminds the viewers that other technologies such as start-stop, electric HVAC, and various ADAS components have been continually evolving. These enhanced systems provide repair shops new opportunities to offer their customers more services.
The webinar also discusses the impact of COVID-19 on the automotive aftermarket. Specifically, the webinar host Anuj Monga, a senior research analyst for Frost & Sullivan's Automotive & Transportation research practice, looks at the reduced demand for replacement parts, along with the potential lingering effects of COVID on the evolution of the aftermarket. Other discussion topics include:
- Disruptions in in-vehicle technology
- Opportunities for repair shops from servicing electric and autonomous vehicles
- Digitizing offering and fulfillment programs to be competitive in the independent aftermarket
"It was great to be part of this discussion," Johnson says. "Because of Mitchell1's leading market position, we are uniquely positioned to give a ‘feet on the street view of the impact of COVID-19 to our nation's repair facilities. It is also very important to be involved in the ongoing discussion about the roadmap to electric vehicles. Shops need to realize and be prepared for the new technologies and opportunities they will present as they begin visiting their bays."
