Paccar announces recalls on Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks

May 22, 2019
Paccar recently announced over 1,800 Kenworth tractors will be recalled with parking brake issues and over 5,000 Peterbilt vocational trucks are being recalled due to an electrical system issue.

According to National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, Paccar recently announced not one, but two recalls. The first being a parking brake issue with more than 1,800 Kenworth tractors, and the second being an electrical system issue with more than 5,000 vocational Peterbilt trucks.

Specifically, Paccar is recalling Kenworth tractors of model year 2018-2020 T680 and T880 tandem axle trucks equipped with parking brakes on a single axle as well as certain models of automated manual transmissions.

Paccar is in the works of finding a solution to the parking brake issue. Apparently, cold temperatures cause the signal from the park brake pressure switch to the transmission controller to be potentially delayed which may cause possible unexpected movement from the vehicle.

If your truck is affected by this recall, contact Paccar customer service at 918-259-3258 with the recall number 19KWB. The recall number for NHTSA is 19V-275.

The second recall stems from undersized wires making the connector between the cab power harness and the power distribution center harness potentially overheat and melt, possibly causing an engine shutdown.

Owners of Peterbilt 520 vocational trucks, model year 2017 through 2020, will be notified by Paccar, and dealers will replace the malfunctioning wire with a new wire of the proper size at no cost. The Paccar recall number for this issue is 19PBB and the NHTSA’s recall number is 19V-282.
