New tire condition alerts added to Omnitracs TPM application

April 16, 2014
The company's tire pressure monitoring application now features tire condtion alerts for 'high heat' and 'fast leak' tire conditions.

Omnitracs, LLC, a leading provider of fleet management solutions to transportation and logistics companies, today announced the addition of new tire condition alerts, high heat and fast leak, to its Tire Pressure Monitoring application. Extending the current value Tire Pressure Monitoring brings, heat and fast leak alerts will offer customers a more comprehensive look at tire health maintenance for improved safety, fuel efficiency and reduced tire-related expenses.

Tire Pressure Monitoring equips fleets with the tools to proactively monitor and maintain proper tire inflation, extending the life of tires while reducing operational expenses and factors that contribute to blow outs and accidents caused by improper tire maintenance. Data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration shows that more than half of all truck tires are under-inflated, which serves to drive up tire maintenance costs by as much as 10 to 15 percent. With adequately maintained tire pressure, fleets can save up to $2,200 per truck per year, not accounting for savings achieved in improved fuel efficiency and safety.

The high heat alert notifies drivers when a truck’s tires have surpassed safe tire temperatures and have reached an excessive heat range and the fast leak alert informs drivers if tire pressure drops, indicating a detected leak. The driver receives the high heat and fast leak alerts in near real time on the in-cab mobile device, while an alert noting a change of status and a possible tire health issue is delivered to the back office. By communicating the right information to the right people, these alerts ensure that fleets can take prompt and necessary action before a safety issue arises.

“Our customers are constantly concerned about the high cost of tires, fuel and the CSA’s strict position on tire violations. Additionally, ensuring drivers conduct thorough tire checks is an ongoing challenge,” commented Vikas Jain, vice president of product management and general manager, software as a service at Omnitracs. “With our new high heat and fast leak alerts, drivers will have a more holistic view of their tire health so they can immediately make repairs or replace tires.”

Available on MCP200 and MCP110 in conjunction with supported tire pressure monitoring systems, the new alerts will be available in the summer of 2014 at no additional charge to customers subscribing to its Tire Pressure Monitoring application.
