Spireon to deliver telematics innovation with new solar-powered trailer tracking product

Sept. 29, 2016
Spireon announced its first solar-powered trailer and asset telematics solution, providing customers with a new way to gain location information and Rich Data around their trailers and assets through a reliable and renewable energy source.

Spireon Inc., a provider of GPS-based vehicle telematics and Business Intelligence solutions with over three million active subscribers, announced its first solar-powered trailer and asset telematics solution, providing customers with a new way to gain location information and Rich Data around their trailers and assets through a reliable and renewable energy source.

The self-powered solution is compatible with a range of transportation vehicles and equipment, including dry vans and intermodal applications such as containers. Upon installation, customers tap into a renewable energy source that powers Spireon FleetLocate’s Rich Data telematics solution that was pioneered over six years ago.

“Spireon FleetLocate is a complete trailer management solution that captures a wealth of Rich Data at the trailer level, then translates the data into easy-to-understand, actionable Business Intelligence,” said Steve Blair, senior vice president of sales at Spireon. “From automating yard checks to right-sizing fleets and increasing driver satisfaction, Spireon customers see dramatic improvements across all areas of their operations, ensuring a rapid return on investment. We are excited to add this new solar-powered product to our industry leading portfolio, adding a new option for customers to dramatically improve their trailer management operations.”

The new trailer-mounted all-in-one solar panel and telematics unit is easily installed in under twenty minutes. From maximizing the operating life of the internal battery with solar recharging, Spireon’s new solar-powered hardware integrates with the Spireon FleetLocate solution, providing businesses with real-time location visibility and Rich Data for their trailers and assets, now with increased power source reliability and decreased hassle, time and resources spent on maintenance.

The solar-powered telematics unit is designed to ensure maximum durability both on and off the road. Trailers and assets can now gather telematics information without drawing power from an external battery, providing a more reliable and continuous power source to the unit’s rechargeable battery.

This creates an ideal solution in providing reliable trailer visibility when hooked to a tractor going down the road or unhooked sitting in a yard. The reliable energy source can maintain connection to assets and trailers that remain dormant for extended periods.

Trailer telematics portfolio

The new solar-powered telematics solution is the latest addition to Spireon’s portfolio of trailer management devices and sensors, further extending Spireon’s position in the unpowered Asset and Trailer Intelligence market. Spireon was recently named “IoT Vehicle Telematics Company of the Year” by independent industry analyst firm, Compass Intelligence; a recognition that comes in part from several recent innovative product introductions including Spireon’s FleetLocate Temperature Monitoring product.

“Spireon’s track record of telematics innovation has solidified the Company’s position as a leader in empowering fleet and transportation businesses to improve operational and utilization efficiencies,” said Roni Taylor, vice president of industry relations at Spireon. “Our innovation is driven by our commitment to delivering powerful new solutions to our customers, and our new solar-powered trailer tracking solution is another great example of Spireon delivering on that commitment for our customers.”

General availability for the new solar-powered Spireon FleetLocate solution is scheduled for next quarter. Spireon will discuss the new solution at the upcoming 2016 ATA Management Conference & Exhibition, Oct. 1–4, in Las Vegas, NV. Visit Spireon at the ATA Conference, Booth No. 920 for more information.
