Fuel pump squeak

Owners of 2005-2006 Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra or Frontier vehicles may complain about a squeaking noise when driving over bumps or when the fuel tank is one-half full or less. The noise may be coming from the inside of the fuel tank and may occur after driving for about 30 minutes.

Owners of 2005-2006 Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra or Frontier vehicles may complain about a squeaking noise when driving over bumps or when the fuel tank is one-half full or less. The noise may be coming from the inside of the fuel tank and may occur after driving for about 30 minutes.

  1. Make sure that the spare tire is secured and is not the source of the squeak.
  2. Replace the fuel pump and seal.
  3. Test drive to verify that the noise is gone.

The replacement fuel pump is available as P/N 17040-ZP00A. The required seal packing (fuel pump to tank seal) is P/N 17342-EA000. Note: DO NOT use seal packing P/N 17040-EA000.
