Current replacement heads may not be equipped with the required steel balls.

Identify and locate the nine lubricant passages on 3.3/3.8L engines, and three on 1.8/2.0L engines and verify that a steel ball is installed in each. If any of these passages are not plugged, insert a steel ball and drive down until fully seated. Special service tool # 0K221 2M100 can be used.

Be careful not to damage any cylinder head sealing surfaces. Support the head with a suitable wood block or other device. Refer to the appropriate service manual for ball size.
