A clicking noise may be present on various Infiniti models including 2008-2009 G37 Coupe, 2009 FX35/FX50, 2008-2009 EX35, 2007-2009 M35/M45 and 2007-2009 G35 Sedan. A clicking noise may be present at the left and/or right rear axle during acceleration from a stop.
Remove the left and right rear driveshafts, clean the flange surface of the outer joints on the driveshafts and apply a specific amount of Molykote M77 grease.Materials required include 1.2 – 4.0 grams per axle of Molykote M77 grease (P/N 44003-7S000), 12 driveshaft side flange bolts (P/N 39606-17V0A), 2 cotter pins P/N 40073-0L700, and 2 wheel bearing nut locks, P/N 40262-2Y000.
Be sure to place a matchmark on the driveshaft and hub before removing the driveshaft. Clean the flange surface of the driveshaft outer joint, and then apply exactly 1.2 – 4.0 grams of Molykote M77 grease to the entire flat surface of the driveshaft’s outer joint (the amount of grease is critical, and should equal about the surface area of a U.S. quarter). DO NOT apply too little or too much grease. Apply an even coat of grease to the entire flat surface (full width of the flat surface, along the entire circumference).
Reinstall the driveshaft 180 degrees from the original position (refer to the matchmarks). Replace the center locknut with a new locknut (the clicking noise may occur if the old locknut is installed). Tighten the center locknut to a value of 133 – 136 ft-lb (180 – 185 Nm). A torque wrench must be used…DO NOT tighten the locknut with a power tool. Install new side flange bolts, tightening these to a value of 54 ft-lb (73 Nm). Test drive the vehicle to verify that the clicking noise is no longer present.
