BMW Has Shifting Problem

This 2017-2019 BMW 3-series and 4-series vehicles equipped with the N20 or N55 engine may have an intermittent issue of going into the Park or Neutral position without the customer's direction.

This bulletin applies to 2017-2019 BMW 3-series and 4-series vehicles equipped with the N20 or N55 engine.

After an automatic engine start, the transmission may intermittently go into the Park or Neutral position without any customer influence. This problem can be sporadic, difficult to reproduce, and no relevant faults may be stored. The cause may be an error in the DME (digital motor electronics) software. Update the DME software using the latest version of ISTA.
