This bulletin applies to 2018 GMC Canyon trucks equipped with a 2.5L engine and Terrain vehicles equipped with a 2.0L or 1.5L engine. On some vehicles, an electrical connection in the circuit board may fail in the engine control module.
If this occurs, a MIL may illuminate. Depending on the VIN, the replacement ECM will be P/N 12669908 or 12687467. The issue may also involve 2018 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac ATS/CTS/CT6, Chevy Camaro/Colorado/Cruze/Equinox/Malibu/Tracker and Volt vehicles.
Open TIS on the computer used to program the vehicle. Select and start SPS. Select settings. Select the warranty claim code tab. After replacing the ECM, module programming is required.
Ensure the programming tool is equipped with the latest software and is securely connected to the data link connector. Stable voltage is critical. When required install the EL-49642 SPS programming support tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12V jumper or booster pack, disconnected from an AC voltage supply. Do not connect a battery charger.
Turn off or disable systems that may place a load on the battery, such as interior lights, HVAC, radio, etc. Clear DTCs after programming is complete.
