The Fix to Jaguar's Rattle Noise

Dec. 12, 2022

A clattering/knock/rattle noise may be heard from the engine in 2014 Jaguar F-Type, 2013-2015 XF and XJ vehicles equipped with a 3.0L supercharged engine. This may be caused by a torsional isolator and/or the torsional isolator spring support shaft wear, causing excessive backlash in the supercharger drive.

Remove the supercharger drive belt and rotate the supercharger pulley by hand. If there is a clunk/knock noise or significant free play when turning the pulley before the rotors start to turn, install a supercharger spring isolator kit (see TOPIx workshop manual, section 303-12).

If any of the following symptoms are present, replace the supercharger assembly:

- The pulley does not rotate freely (sticks/roughness felt in bearing/difficult to move)

- The blades are damaged

- The customer reported excessive “whine” noise
