Releasing Kia Shift Lock

This bulletin applies to all Kia vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. If a no-start condition is present and the battery requires a charge/jump start in order to move the vehicle, you may not be able to shift out of the Park position.

This bulletin applies to all Kia vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. If a no-start condition is present and the battery requires a charge/jump start in order to move the vehicle, you may not be able to shift out of the Park position.

1. Carefully remove the Shift Lock Release tab using a pick tool.

2. Press and hold the brake pedal.

3. Insert a pick tool into the shift lock release hole and press down on the button located inside.

4. Press the shift knob button and shift the lever to the neutral position.
