Updating BMW to Fix Phone Issue

Nov. 27, 2023
Some BMW owners may not be able to have their Apple iPhone calls routed through the vehicle head unit.

Some BMW owners may not be able to have their Apple iPhone calls routed through the vehicle head unit. This applies to vehicles with the following optional equipment packages:

SA0663 (radio professional – head unit basic media)

SA0606 (navigation business – head unit basic navigation)

SA0609 (navigation professional – head unit high)

SA6NH (Bluetooth with USB audio)

SA6NP (enhanced USB and Bluetooth)

After receiving iOS 10.3.1 update from Apple, the audio of incoming telephone calls is not transmitted through the vehicle’s sound system. This is caused by Apple software version iOS 10.3.1. The correction: update the device to iOS 10.3.2 or higher.

Delete the VIN from the device. Delete the device from the vehicle. Shut down the device completely (not stand-by mode). Exit and lock the vehicle. Reset network settings on the device – go to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. This will delete all Wi-Fi connection data which must be re-entered by the customer.

Allow the vehicle to sleep for 5 minutes. Reboot the device. Pair the device to the vehicle. Retest functionality.
