Tech Tip: Use pin plates to prevent vibration-related wheel balance comebacks

Feb. 28, 2018
Replicating how the wheel mounts to the vehicle is critical to achieve a vibration free balance result.

Problem: Approximately 60 percent of vibration-related wheel balance comebacks can be directly attributed to how wheels are mounted on the balancer.

Solution: Replicating how the wheel mounts to the vehicle is critical to achieve a vibration free balance result. As a general rule, always back cone with low angle collets and utilize a pin plate system for equal pressure, while lowering the risk of damaging a rim.

Step 1: Select plate, matching pin plate to bolt pattern

Step 2: Select collet that fits best, slide back cone spring on shaft, slide collet on shaft (back cone when possible)

Step 3: Lift wheel onto shaft and center it on collet

Step 4: Align the adjustable pin plate's fingers with the wheel lug holes

Step 5: Install the hub nut on to the shaft, tighten securely, follow balancer manufacturer instructions
