General Tools & Instruments releases new borescopes

Come with SD cards for recording functions, thin camera probe

General Tools & Instruments' DCS1600 and DCS1600ART, and the wireless DCS1800 and DCS1800ART, all feature ultra-slim camera-tipped probes that provide superior image resolution and depth of field. Articulating probes on the "ART" models offer the ability to remotely manipulate the camera tip to scan the inspection area and achieve the ideal viewing angle. In fact, more than 15 different probe options make these advanced systems versatile enough to handle nearly any inspection application.

These specialty instruments save time and money by accelerating analysis and diagnosis—enabling the speedy and precise inspection of engines, cooling systems and other densely packed, hidden or inaccessible areas without the need for disassembly. What's more, the 1800 models are wireless, enabling remote viewing from as far away as 10 meters. All four systems accommodate a myriad of automotive applications, such as:

  • Detecting and diagnosing problems, defects or damage in chassis, suspension, transmission and more
  • Inspecting internal engine components (e.g., gas and diesel cylinders) for carbon deposits, wear, corrosion and component failure
  • Easily accessing under dash, A/C and heating systems
  • Checking brakes without removing wheels
  • Inspecting gear boxes, fuel injector nozzles, hydraulic assemblies and more
  • Detecting cooling system leaks or blockages in radiators and engine blocks

The DCS1800 and DCS1600 each come with a 5.5mm (0.22") diameter, 1M (3.28") long flexible-obedient camera-tipped probe with a depth of field of 10 to 300mm (0.4 to 12"). Each "ART" model comes with a 6mm (0.23") diameter, 1M (3.28") long articulating probe, which allows users to bend the probe tip up to 150 degrees to the left or right while it is in a tight space via a remote control wheel on the probe handle. All of these front-view camera probes are water, oil and dust proof to IP67 standards and feature four adjustable white LEDs to yield superior image resolution. Each provides a horizontal field angle of 46 degrees, a vertical field angle of 34 degrees and a diagonal field angle of 56 degrees. Probe options abound for all four systems in lengths from 1M (3.28') to 22M (72') and include soft metal and VGA resolution articulating probes, slim 3.9mm (0.15") diameter probes and switchable 4.9mm (0.19") front/side view probes.

Each of the four models features a 3.5" (88.9mm) color monitor for real-time viewing and a removable 2GB SD card for recording video and still images. Additionally, the DCS1800 has a wireless range of up to 10M (33') and can record audio annotations via an integrated microphone.
