Tool Review: Milwaukee Tool Shockwave Impact Duty Magnetic Bit Tip Holders

April 14, 2015
Reviewer used tool to perform HVAC housing and dashboard work, to drive self-tapping screws and more.

The Milwaukee Shockwave Impact Duty Magnetic Bit Tip Holders are engineered for extreme durability and up to 10 times life. Made from proprietary steel and heat-treated to control hardness, the Shockwave Impact Duty Magnetic Bit Holders offer a magnet, which allows for a secure grip and bit engagement. The 2-pc construction of the holders also allows for abusive applications. These bit holders can be used with Milwaukee Shockwave Impact Duty Insert Magnetic Nut Drivers (1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2").

The Review

Lou Fort, lead technician at K.A.R.S. Inc. in Huntingburg, Ind. recently used the Milwaukee Tool Magnetic Bit Tip Holders to perform HVAC housing and dashboard work, in addition to driving self-tapping screws on up-fitting work and to remove and install various trim pieces.

He says that these bit holders are easy to use. “The only setup is to insert the bit needed at the time of use.”

To Fort, two separate features stood out. “The first is the ‘Shock Zone’ on both the 6” and 12” versions. The second feature is the ‘C’ ring in the bit holder. When using a bit that has a groove cut into them, the ‘C’ ring holds them tight.” He says, “When using a bit that didn’t have a groove, the hold wasn’t as strong, but stronger than other bit holders I’ve used.”

Fort has not used previous versions of Milwaukee Tool bit holders, although he has used bit holders from other companies. The other brand he has used offered a stronger magnet than the Milwaukee Tool Bit Holders, but was prone to breakage from heavy use. Fort hopes the magnet “would be an aid when installing hard-to-reach screws.”

To improve this tool, Fort suggests a stronger magnet. He also says, “Rather than having a ‘C’ ring bit holder, a locking bit holder would be even better.”

On a scale of one to 10, Fort rated the bit holders a nine. He says, “The ‘Shock Zone’ and ‘C’ ring are nice additions but the magnet doesn’t provide much.”
