ACAT Global buys Emico Technologies

Advanced Clean Air Technologies Global (ACAT), manufacturers of lightweight catalytic converter substrates, has purchased Emico Technologies, a manufacturer of automotive catalytic converters.

Advanced Clean Air Technologies Global (ACAT), manufacturers of efficient, lightweight catalytic converter substrates, has purchased Emico Technologies of Barrie, Ontario, manufacturer of automotive catalytic converters for aftermarket applications, down pipes and exhaust system components.

“Both companies stand to benefit from this new relationship. Emico has an established aftermarket presence, plus assembly, machining, fabrication and distribution capabilities that will benefit ACAT,” said Joe A. Moch, CEO of ACAT Global. “In turn, ACAT provides new product opportunities for Emico, which will now be able to offer a high-performance line of catalytic converters featuring ACAT’s metallic, lightweight, high-flow substrates.”

The sale closed in August, and ACAT has already begun shipping its metallic substrates to Emico’s facility in Barrie. Engineers and product designers from both organizations have started collaborating on new product plans. The companies will share a display at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas Nov. 5-8, 2013. The ACAT/Emico booth can be found in the Racing & Performance section in booth #25153.

“Joe Moch and ACAT have a clear vision for this industry,” said Jay Bondyra, Emico’s founder and General Manager. “Expanding our product line to include ACAT’s high-performance substrates will introduce us to a new category of customers, and give us an increased presence in the industry.”

Emico Technologies Inc. was founded in 1996 as a spin-off of a Volkswagen Canada plant, which manufactured automotive catalytic converters. Emico purchased all the production equipment, tooling, quality assurance gauges, parts and materials inventory from VW Canada to continue producing catalytic converters. Emico supplies its catalytic converters to aftermarket customers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and several European countries.

Emico’s manufacturing system is a modern catalytic converter assembly line equipped with automatic welding machines, which uses robotics and other automated systems and equipment. The assembly line has dedicated tooling for particular models, rigorously controlled process parameters and highly-trained employees to ensure the consistent quality of its products.

Earlier this year, ACAT Global purchased a controlling stake in Oliver Racing Parts, manufacturers of high-performance connecting rods. Oliver Racing Parts recently relocated to Charlevoix from Grand Rapids, Mich. There are no plans to move Emico Technologies, said Moch.
