This bulletin applies to 2011-2013 Kia Optima 2.0L/2.4L GDI, 2011-2013 Sportage 2.0L GDI, 2012-2014 Sorento 2.4L GDI, 2014 Sorento 3.3L GDI and 2014 Cadenza 3.3L GDI. These vehicles may experience a MIL on with the ECM system-related DTC P0087 (fuel rail pressure too low). It may be necessary to replace the high-pressure fuel pump, fuel delivery pipe and mounting bolts.

Check for other DTCs that would point to the low fuel pressure fuel pump or fuel pressure sensor. Correct as needed. Inspect the electrical connectors at both the pump and fuel pressure sensor.

Check the fuel line connections on the low-pressure side and use a gauge to manually check primary fuel pressure from the main pump. If fuel pressure is within specifications and all connections are secure, replace the high-pressure fuel pump. Note: To avoid a possible fuel leak, do not reuse the high-pressure fuel delivery pipe. Be sure to allow the vehicle to rest for a period of time before removing the high-pressure fuel pump, delivery pipe or injector to allow pressure to drop.

Inspect the electrical connectors at both the fuel pump and the fuel pressure sensor. On 3.3L GDI equipped vehicles, check connector CC22B.

On 2.0L and 2.4L GDI equipped vehicles, check connector CHGINJ (12-BLK).
