Solving the Land Rover parking brake problem

Jan. 2, 2024
The EBP (emergency park brake) may not release after being applied in 2016 Land Rover/Range Rover Evoque, Discovery and Velar vehicles.

This bulletin applies to 2016 Land Rover/Range Rover Evoque, Discovery and Velar vehicles. The EBP (emergency park brake) may not release after being applied. The EPB applied light may not be on. The ABS, DSC (dynamic stability control) and brake warning lights may be on. The “Autonomous Emergency Braking Not Available” message is displayed.

The cause is a software error. This fault will occur in the following situations:

  • The vehicle is in neutral and the ignition is turned off.
  • Ignition is off for a period of 15 minutes or longer.
  • This means that if the driver is making a series of short “neutral IGN off stops” without the vehicle going to sleep in between, then when the stop time adds up to 15 minutes the fault will occur.

To clear the fault, the vehicle needs to go through a sleep cycle as follows:

  1. IGN ON.
  2. Put the transmission into Park.
  3. IGN OFF.
  4. Exit the vehicle and lock it.
  5. Wair 15 minutes before re-entering the vehicle.
