A customer states that their 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe is cold, especially in the mornings, the gearshift won't come out of park, and multiple dash warning lights remain on. Also, the rear-view camera begins working after he can get the transmission to shift into reverse. When the temperature warms up, everything returns to normal.
Case details
After connecting a scan tool, the technician checked for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in all modules. That only module that would communicate while the problem was occurring was the HVAC module. There were no DTCs in any module.
An ALLDATA Tech-Assist consultant advised starting the diagnosis by checking the rear-view camera and blind spot modules as they often become corroded and can short-out communication lines. He recommended disconnecting each, one at a time to see if communication and normal operation returned.
The technician inspected the rear-view camera and blind spot modules as suggested and found that when he disconnected the rear-view camera, all the problems disappeared.
Confirmed repair
After the technician replaced the rear-view camera, he tested the vehicle the next morning. Although it was cold, communication with all modules was restored, the rear-view camera worked perfectly, there were no dash warning lights and the transmission easily went into reverse. Problem solved!
