With the recent supply chain issues over the past year, parts availability in the collision repair industry have been largely impacted. As a result, shop owners are becoming more interested in repairing parts rather than replacing them.
Polyvance recently created Polyvance University, an online training resource designed to help technicians learn plastic repair essentials, since plastic parts are ideal candidates for repair because they are not structural and are often easy to repair with the right equipment and knowledge.
The first course offering within Polyvance University is “Basics of Plastic Repair.” This course is designed to provide technicians the basic knowledge they need to start working with plastic. It covers plastic identification, plastic preparation, six different repair methods, and plastic refinishing. There are three knowledge-check quizzes throughout the course and one final quiz at the end. Upon successful completion of the course (70 percent or greater on the final quiz), the technician is emailed a course completion certificate.
The course is available on Polyvance’s learning management portal at https://polyvance.tortal.net/.
It consists of 17 modules and will take approximately one hour to complete. The average lesson length is about four minutes, and the course can be started and stopped at any time to accommodate the individual's schedule.
Polyvance plans to release follow-on courses that will be more in-depth.
