What’s happening?
Michigan House Bill 4344, should it pass, will prohibit the use of aftermarket and remanufactured parts to repair vehicles that are less than five years old. This bill could pass within 48 hours.
How will this impact my business?
All remanufactured parts and components would be banned from being used in repairs, in any light duty Michigan vehicle, for a period of five years.
What’s been done?
MERA and the MEMA Washington Office sent a strongly-worded letter of opposition to all Michigan representatives and senators. In addition, the MEMA DC Office called Governor Snyder’s office. Although the governor is aware of MERA’s stance, his office has not yet expressed whether he would veto the bill should it reach his desk.

Key Talking Points
When contacting your elected officials, in addition to sharing with him or her how this would hurt your business, let them know how this bill would:
- Limit consumer choice in repair options
- Increase repair costs by mandating OEM parts
- Negatively impact aftermarket retail sales
- Hurt manufacturing jobs (be sure to let them know how many people you employ)
