Fixing the Jaguar start/stop glitch

Jan. 2, 2024
2014 Jaguar F-Type, 2013-2014 XF and 2013-2015 XJ vehicles with gasoline engines may notice the engine hesitate after an Auto Stop/Start event.

This bulletin applies to 2014 Jaguar F-Type, 2013-2014 XF and 2013-2015 XJ vehicles (all gasoline engines). The engine speed may “dip” or the engine may hesitate after an Auto Stop/Start event. This may be caused by a PCM software calibration issue.

Using a Jaguar/Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool with the latest DVD (146.02 v.243 or later) and calibration file, reprogram the PCM. Jaguar recommends using a Midtronics battery power supply connected to the vehicle battery during module programming.

  1. Connect the Jaguar-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle battery.
  2. Turn the ignition ON (engine off)
  3. Connect the Jaguar/Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new session.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing the tool to read the VIN, identify the vehicle and initiating the data collect sequence.
  5. Select Diagnosis from the session type screen.
  6. Select the Selected Symptoms tab and then select Powertrain-Engine system-Engine performance-Engine speed dips, or Powertrain-Engine system-Engine performance-Engine hesitates.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Select the Recommendations tab.
  9. Select Run to perform the Configure existing module – Powertrain control module option.
  10. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task, ensuring that all DTCs are cleared.
  11. When all tasks complete, select the Session tab and then select the Close Session option.
  12. Disconnect the diagnostic tool and battery power supply.
