This bulletin applies to 2016 and later Kia Sorento vehicles equipped with EPB (electronic parking brake).

Kia requires a specific procedure for EPB shoe adjustment. Failure to correctly adjust the parking brake shoes after replacement of the EPB module may result in premature EPB module failure.

Prior to shoe adjustment, visually inspect the rear parking brake linings and springs to ensure that all components are in good condition without excessive wear, damage, heat spots, etc.

1. Remove the plug (A) from the brake rotor.

2. Rotate the toothed wheel (star adjuster B) until the brake rotor is locked and cannot be turned by hand.

3. Rotate the toothed wheel five clicks in the opposite direction.

4. Ensure that the brake rotor rotates freely with no drag.

5. Repeat steps one through four for the opposite rotor.

6. Function text the EPB system for proper operation.
