A limited number of 2010 Ford Flex, Edge, Taurus, MKX, MKS and MKT vehicles equipped with a 6F50/6F55 all wheel drive transmission may experience a power transfer unit (PTU) compression seal leak.

Transmission fluid (red in color) leakage is diagnosed as between the PTU assembly and the transmission case and is referred to in the workshop manual section 308-07B as a PTU compression seal leak.

With the PTU removed from the vehicle, look at the white sticker on the PTU, which features an imprinted identifying serial number that will be visible directly under the bar code.

If the first five digits following the letter “F” in this number are between 09233 and 09238, the entire PTU should be replaced. If the first five digits are not in this range, repair with a new PTU compression seal and link shaft seal.
