This bulletin applies to BMW models produced from June 30, 2011, to July 1, 2012. You may find an intermittent difficulty in starting the engine due to the key not being detected. Terminal 18 cannot be switched on. The remote key is not detected inside the vehicle.

The following check control messages are displayed:

  • Remote control not present or disrupted. Not possible to start engine.
  • No remote control. Not possible to start engine.

Note: The engine can still be started via the emergency start coil on the side of the steering column. The cause is attributed to a front electronic module (FEM) software error. The correction involves updating software using ISTA/P 2.47.2 or higher.

1. Perform vehicle diagnosis using ISTA. Troubleshoot any related faults that are stored. When the ISTA system message displays “Battery voltage only XX.XX V, connect a battery charger."

2. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.47.2 or higher. New integration level F020-12-530.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
