This bulletin applies to 2013 – 2019 Chevy Malibu vehicles equipped with a 2.5L or 2.0L engine. The same engines are available in a number of GM vehicles including Buick Envision and Regal, Cadillac CTS, ATS and CT6, Chevy Camaro, Equinox, Impala and Traverse and GMC Acadia, Canyon and Terrain.
An engine oil leak may be found on the right side of the engine block, near the starter. The condition may be caused by porosity in the casting port of the engine block and bolt hole #1423.
Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan. Remove the bed plate bolt from hole #1423. The bolt and hole threads must be cleaned and Loctite PST 565 (GM P/N 12346004) must be applied to the bolt threads. Be sure to first clean the hole’s female threads first.
If re-using the original bolt, clean the bolt threads. When applying the thread sealant, leave the top and bottom of the threads clear of sealant. Install the bed plate bolt and torque to specifications found in the service manual. Install the oil pan and refill with clean engine oil. Road test and verify that the leak has been corrected.
