This applies to all 2000-2018 GM V6 and V8 pushrod engines equipped with roller rockers. GM notes that if you find roller rocker arm needle bearings during an oil change, inspect all rocker arms.
If a damaged rocker arm is found, only replace the broken roller rocker arm.
During the repair, needle bearings may be found in cylinder head oil drains or in the oil pan. Be sure to retrieve the loose needle bearings. The diameter of the needle bearing is larger than the oil pump pickup screen, preventing the needle bearings from being pulled into the oil pump.
Editor’s note: An upgrade using an aftermarket trunnion bearing kit will eliminate this concern in the future.
