This bulletin applies to 2009 Ram 1500 trucks equipped with a 5.7L engine. The vehicle may exhibit a MIL illumination for the following DTCs. The customer may experience a harsh engagement or a buck/jerking feeling. The Catalyst Monitor Readiness may be difficult to set under some driving conditions.
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the PCM with new software (9.05 or higher).

The technician may also find that P1521 (incorrect engine oil type) has been set on EXH engines only.
Using a scan tool (wiTECH) or StarSCAN with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that all engine systems are functioning as designed. Record any DTC and repair as needed before proceeding with reprogramming.
Reprogram with the latest software and clear any DTCs that may have set in other modules. Type the necessary information on the authorized modifications label and attach it near the VECI label.
