During failure investigation of steering gear assemblies, it was determined that a majority of the issues reside with the motor kit instead of the mechanical portion of the gear. Caution: Water intrusion or corrosion can cause premature power steering assist motor failure.

If signs of water intrusion or corrosion are present, replace the entire steering gear. Common related DTCs include C0176, C044B, C0475, C0544, C0545 and C056D.
