Some 2016-2022 Toyota vehicles equipped with a 2GR-FKS or A25A-FKS engine may exhibit a fuel odor from the high-pressure fuel pump. Vehicles involved include 2019-2022 Avalon, RAV4, RAV4 HV, 2018-2022 Camry, 2017-2022 Highlander and Highlander HV, 2021-2022 RAV4 Prime, Sienna HV, Venza HV, 2017-2020 Sienna and 2016-2022 Tacoma.
If the fuel odor is traced to the locations shown in the attached photo, remove the high-pressure fuel pump and repair or replace it as needed. The intake manifold does not need to be removed to access this pump. Vehicles equipped with a 2GR engine require removal of the surge tank assembly only. Removal of the coolant bypass hoses to the throttle body is not required. Remove the throttle body from the surge tank and lay it to the side during service.
