The MIL may be on, accompanied by DTC P081C (park input circuit) and/or P0814-00 (transmission range display circuit).

The customer may describe one or more of the following:

  • Instrument panel shows “Vehicle not in Park” even when the lever is physically in Park
  • The vehicle cannot be turned off
  • Engine is off but some modules are awake
  • The battery was drained due to the vehicle not being able to turn off
  • PRNDM light flickers or no illumination at all
  • While the engine is cranking, the customer can shift out of Park, resulting in an engine stall

Reprogram the ESM with the latest available software. Using wiTECH, restore vehicle configuration, perform proxy alignment and perform a BCM hard reset (“Guided Diagnostic” tab). Perform an ignition cycle and start the engine.

Clear all DTCs in all modules that may have occurred during programming. The flash download should take about two minutes.
