This bulletin applies to inspecting for water intrusion at the electronic limited slip differential (ELSD) connectors on 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles (built on or before Jan. 19, 2018,) and equipped with a 6.2L supercharged Hemi SRT engine.

Customers may experience the electronic stability control (ESC) light and Service 4WD light both on. In addition, the anti-lock braking system will function but the rear differential will only be allowed to be in the open state (no differential lockup).

Scan and verify that all other systems are functioning as designed. Record and correct any DTCs before addressing the ELSD issue.

PARTS REQUIRED

J8126688AB........Mopar dielectric grease

68425656AA .......Connector, terminal dummy plug (6)

05035575AA........Electronic limited slip differential jumper

68335238AA........Connector terminal repair kit

INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE 1

1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Inspect the in-line connectors of both the underbody harness and the ELSD jumper harness to ensure that the dummy cavity plugs are present and correctly installed. Disconnect the connector and verify that there is no corrosion or water

present. Verify that the cable seals are present and installed under-flush with both in-line connectors.

3. Was any water found? If yes, proceed to Step one of the repair. If no, proceed to Step four here.

4. Replace the dummy cavity plugs with Mopar P/N 68425656AA of the ELSD jumper.

5. Apply dielectric grease to each female terminal along with the face of the connector with female terminals.

6. Make the connection and reassemble. Lower the vehicle and clear all DTCs.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 2

1. Remove all water from the connector. Spray the connector with electrical contact cleaner to assist with the removal of any water/corrosion. Use a small, soft plastic brush to gently clean the terminals.

2. Was corrosion of the terminals able to be cleaned and terminal cavities/pins undamaged? If yes, proceed to Step three. If no, a new ELSD jumper harness must be installed.

3. Allow contacts to dry. Replace dummy cavity plugs with P/N 68425656AA of the ELSD jumper.

4. Apply dielectric grease to each female terminal along with the face of the connector with female terminals.

5. Make the connection and lower the vehicle. Clear all DTCs.
