Diagnosing Buick brake pressure

Sept. 16, 2024
This bulletin applies to 2013-2022 Buick Encore vehicles.

This bulletin applies to 2013-2022 Buick Encore vehicles. A technician may run into a scenario in which the BPMV (brake pressure modulator valve) has been replaced and there is a Service Traction and/or Stability Control message on the instrument panel.

Upon a GDS2 scan check, DTC C0131 SYM00 is set current in the K17 electric brake control module. During diagnosis you may notice that the brake pressure sensor voltage is reading five volts at all times with the brake pedal released or depressed.

Technicians are advised to remove the BPMV assembly and inspect the brake pressure sensor assembly and make sure that all shipping material has been removed before installation. If shipping material is not removed, this will cause the DTC to set and/or possibly cause damage to both the EBCM and the BPMV.
