Genesis offers its recommended procedure to avoid/correct brake pedal pulsation on 2020 G70, G80 and G90 vehicles.
1. Drive the vehicle and accelerate to 50 mph. Apply the brakes using moderate force (about 0.3g deceleration rate) and slow to 10 mph. This should take about six seconds.
2. With as little cooling time as possible, repeat this braking event 10 times. The total drive time should take no more than five minutes.
3. If no brake pedal pulsation is noted at the end of the drive cycle, the service is complete.
4. If brake pedal pulsation is noted at the end of the drive cycle, raise the vehicle on a hoist and remove the front wheel/tire assemblies.
5. Remove the calipers and resurface the two front rotors with an on-car brake lathe (recommended method).
When machining rotors, set cutting depth to 0.003" – 0.005" per pass. Make a maximum of two machining passes per side. Take care to observe minimum rotor thickness as follows:
G70 with standard rotors......... 1.02-inch (26.0mm)
G70 with Brembo rotors........... 1.10-inch (28.0mm)
G80......................................... 1.12-inch (28.4mm)
G90......................................... 1.28-inch (32.4mm)
Burnish the brakes by driving the vehicle again at 50 mph. Use the same brake cycling procedure as used earlier. Try to avoid coming to a complete stop during the burnishing process. This will help to create a uniform transfer layer of pad to rotor and will aid in preventing brake pulsation. If brake pedal pulsation is still evident, replace both front brake rotors and repeat the burnishing process.
Note: Whether using resurfaced rotors or new rotors, be sure to first clean the rotor disc surfaces to remove all oils and microscopic debris. Hot water and Dawn dishwashing liquid is always a good method for cleaning.
