An oily substance may be found on the inside windshield surface and appears to be leaking from the rearview mirror area. The oil/fluid is from the gel pad of the moisture sensor. The oil can separate and leak due to heat. The sensor should only leak one time and leakage will not affect sensor performance. Inspect the moisture sensor.
If found to be leaking, remove the sensor by gently rocking it in the bracket and pulling it down with constant pressure. Use care to avoid touching the gel. Using excessive force to remove the sensor may cause the gel to separate from the sensor. Any sensor that experiences gel separation should be replaced.
Clean the glass surface and sensor bracket with an isopropanol alcohol wipe until the surface is clean, then reinstall the moisture sensor. Test the sensor by placing the ignition to the run position and rotating the wiper switch intermittent (delay) band fully forward.
Once the wipers are wiped once, apply water to the outside of the windshield in the area of the moisture sensor with a spray bottle. After one or two sprays, the wipers should be wiped.
