Some 2016-2021 Mazda MX-5 vehicles produced before Feb.4, 2021, may exhibit a clunk noise from the rear suspension when driving at low speeds and/or turning, due to the rattling of the upper lateral link bushing boots in the rear hub supports.

Dimensional variation of the bushing boots in the rear hub support may cause insufficient sealing, which allows water to enter the rear hub support, resulting in rust in the pillow ball. The rust then accelerates the pillow-ball wear and causes a gap between the body and the bearing, resulting in the clunk.

To eliminate this concern, the boots in the rear hub support have been modified to improve sealing.

The improved versions are available per the following part numbers:

    Right support hub..................N243-26-11XA

    Left support hub....................N243-26-12XA

    Nut ...................................... D651-33-042A
