It took Cornwell Tools dealer Nick Christensen nearly three-and-a-half years to complete the customization of his current tool truck.
The Spanish Forks, Utah-based dealer replaced vital systems – including a new engine and transmission, as well as components and wiring on the 1986 Ford C-Series truck; gutted and rebuilt the entire interior of the original tool truck box; and repainted the truck.
"I gutted it all the way to the walls and started from the ground up,” Christensen says of the clean and organized interior.
This involved re-insulating the truck box, replacing the interior walls and rebuilding custom shelving to his own specifications.
“Everybody loves it,” Christensen says of the custom-built tool truck, which he aptly named “Old Blue.”
“Everywhere I go people ask lots of questions about it,” he says. “Everybody wants to know what year it is, and they’re really surprised because it’s an ’86. Ford built these (truck models) from ’57 to ’90, so it kind of blows everybody’s minds when I tell them it’s an ’86 because they think it should be a lot older.”
Christensen has been a Cornwell dealer for more than 14 years, servicing northern Utah County. He puts on nearly 30,000 miles a year, averaging about 575 miles per week.
