For nearly 20 years, Stephen Fultz worked as a technician. At the end of 2021, he made the switch to being a distributor after realizing he was no longer happy to be a tech, and he's now able to use his decades of experience to better serve his loyal customer base and live a better, happier life for himself.
Once you settle into your route as a distributor, it can become a comfortable and familiar place. Losing that familiarity and having to recreate the relationships and comfort that come with personal experience is a tough challenge. For Gabe Felix, switching routes was an intimidating idea, but it wasn't one he backed down from -- and after starting over, he found that he had made the right decision.
Some distributors simply pull up to the shop and open their doors. Some distributors, like Mac Tools' Tolbert, make a little more noise when they come through. Between his pink outfits and full-fledged costumes, this distributor is thankfully hard to miss.
It seems like most distributors join up after working as a technician or another sales position, but not Hunter Castaneda. She figured out how to transfer the sales and customer skills she built as a hairstylist to the industry and now runs a successful route for Cornwell. Read her story here.
