Carrier Transicold recently celebrated a safety milestone at its Athens, Ga. plant, surpassing 5 million hours without a lost-time injury. The company has recorded zero lost-time injuries at the facility since October 2006, an achievement that demonstrates Carrier Transicold's commitment and cultural focus on employee safety. Carrier Transicold helps improve global transport and shipping temperature control with a complete line of equipment for refrigerated trucks, trailers and containers, and is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

"We are proud of this achievement, which continues to be made possible through the dedication of our exceptional workforce and a comprehensive approach to safety awareness, training and continuous improvement," said Tom Ondo, general manager, Carrier Transicold Truck Trailer and Rail, Americas. "This milestone demonstrates the strength of the safety programs and culture at this facility."

The Athens facility was admitted into the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) at the Star level in 2010. The program recognizes employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintained injury and illness rates below U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries, while demonstrating employee involvement at all levels of the program.

"The team is extremely proud of this milestone, as it's a testament to our commitment to providing a safe working environment for every employee," said Matt Walker, Athens plant manager, Carrier Transicold. "We believe that a successful safety culture is when each employee takes responsibility for not only their own personal safety but those working around them."

The Carrier Transicold plant makes the Vector, X2 and X4 trailer refrigeration units and Supra truck refrigeration units, as well as PowerLINE generator sets, used to power refrigerated shipping containers when transported over land.
