CAS announced a Battery Exchange Program (BEP) for all Gscan-3 tools that have been sold into the U.S. and Canada.

The program came about when an incident occurred in June when a customer reported their Gscan-3 scan tool overheated and the battery was found to be the cause.

"This occurred while they had the Gscan-3 connected to a vehicle," said John Jenkins, president of CAS. "There was no fire involved, but the tool did get hot enough to distort the case and the battery was destroyed.”

The manufacturer of the Gscan-3, GIT, requested that CAS exchange all Gscan-3 lithium batteries of units sold in North America that were delivered prior to August 1. To prevent the possibility of this occurring with other Gscan-3 tools, and to error on the side of caution, GIT insists all batteries should be replaced and an operating system update should be performed.

The exchange program will be done at no charge to all affected customers and is noted that this exchange will not be necessary for Gscan-2 or Gscan-1 customers, only Gscan-3 tools.

Beginning September 1 and continuing through the month, packages will start mailing out to all customers on file who own a Gscan-3 scan tool. The packages will contain a new lithium battery, an SD card for doing the operating system update, an instruction sheet, a CAS memo with further details, and a tape strip to reseal the box for the return of the old battery via UPS.

An instructional video on how to perform the update can also be found on the CAS website, near the bottom of the page; https://oemtools.com/multi-line-scanners/

Gscan-3 owners having any questions about the BEP can contact CAS at 877-263-4897 or via email by directing questions to [email protected].
