GM launches all-electric Cadillac Lyriq

March 22, 2022
The first 2023 Cadillac Lyriq rolled off the assembly line at GM's Spring Hill, Tenn. assembly plant this week.

General Motors started retail production of its all-electric luxury crossover vehicle - the GM Cadillac Lyriq yesterday.

“This is a monumental day for the entire GM team," GM President Mark Reuss said.

Since the company invested $2 billion in its Spring Hill, Tennessee assembly plant (the largest GM facility in North America) back in October 2020, the production team has been working ahead of schedule to assembly the Cadillac Lyriq while also working on the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, and GMC Acadia.

Reservations for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition sold out in just over 10 minutes late last summer, according to a GM press release. Cadillac will begin taking additional orders for the 2023 LYRIQ on May 19.

Ultium Platform debut

The Cadillac Lyriq is built on GM’s Ultium Platform which encompasses a common EV architecture and propulsion components like battery cells, modules, packs, Ultium Drive units, EV motors, and integrated power electronics.

Through the Ultium Platform, GM will realize a strategic value chain shift across its network of vehicle assembly plants as the company commonizes and streamlines machinery, tooling and assembly processes. This flexibility enables lower capital investments and greater efficiencies as additional assembly plant transformations occur.
