Some owners of 2017-2020 Mazda6, 2019-2020 CX-5 and 2016-2020 CX-9 vehicles (all with the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine) may experience a squeaking noise from the exhaust manifold when the idle speed drops from fast idle to normal idle speed during a cold start.
This is caused by a variable valve being stuck in the closed position. When returning from fast to normal idle, the stuck valve suddenly opens due to thermal change which causes the abnormal noise.
To eliminate this concern, the internal design of the exhaust manifold has been modified.
