This bulletin applies to 2021-2022 Honda HR-V vehicles. The MIL may be on accompanied by DTC P2DE1 (cold start air-fuel ration control system rich).

During engine start in cold conditions, a miscalculation in the PCM causes the air-fuel ratio to exceed DTC P2DE1 rich criteria. Update the PGM-FI software.

Make sure that all diagnostic and reprogramming software are updated as follows:

i-HDS software version 1.009.003 or later

HDS software version 3.105.036 or later

Honda ECU reprogramming 4.1.0.0 or later

Check the engine oil. Park the vehicle on level ground and start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3000 RPM with no load until the radiator fan comes on. Then turn the engine off and wait for more than three minutes.

Remove and wipe the dipstick and reinstall the dipstick. Check engine oil level. It should be between the upper mark and the lower mark. If the oil level is not above the upper mark, go to the software update procedure and update the PGM-Fi software.

If the oil level is above the upper mark, raise the vehicle and remove the engine undercover. Remove the front splash shield. Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Reinstall the drain bolt with a new 14mm washer P/N 94109-14000.

Tighten the drain bolt to 30 ft-lb. Install the front splash shield and engine undercover. Refill the engine with 0W-20 (Honda lists oil 08798-9029). Engine oil capacity without the filter is 3.7 US quarts. Run the engine for more than three minutes, shut off, wait for more than three minutes and check oil level.
