This bulletin applies to all Subaru vehicles equipped with a 2.0L or 2.4L turbo engine. The engine management system is equipped with a back-up memory.

When disconnecting the battery cables, this back-up memory is cleared. After reconnecting the battery, if the ignition switch is turned back on within one minute after the first time the ignition is turned off, it becomes possible for the CEL (check engine light) to illuminate, storing DTC P0606 in memory.

The code will not occur immediately, but may occur after a period of time, depending on how the vehicle is operated.

Examples of scenarios that can start the groundwork for DTC P0606 include disconnecting the battery, OBD memory clear, a dead or deeply discharged battery. To minimize the chances of this DTC to set, using the SSMIII, clear the ECM memory in OBD.

Turn the ignition on, then off normally one time. Wait for more than one minute before turning the ignition on again. This procedure allows the self-shut off relay to power down, completing the self-shutoff procedure.
