A rattling/humming noise may be heard from the electric steering system. The ball screw drive (KGT) may be damaged by hitting the front wheels on curbs/posts, driving over obstructions (potholes, etc.) at an inappropriate speed, and/or corrosion/water ingress through a damaged boot.

Mercedes-Benz recommends the replacement of the electric power steering gear assembly.
